This time we made it!

We woke at 6:45 to the sound of Crows and Bald Eagles. After putting the dink on deck and breakfast we got underway, it was 8:00am. Once out in the Bay we unfurled the headsail and hung on. At times when surfing the following seas we were doing 11.3 knots. We took a picture so's you would believe us - no kidding, a couple of times we hit 11.3 knots.

Gannets started showing up a few hours into the trip which is a good sign that the Atlantic isn't that far away!

At these speeds by 2:01 we were heading into Norfolk - thats Virginia on the right and the Atlantic on  the left. By 3:00 we were passing the military might of the U.S.A.

We were not alone, at times we really got the impession that big brother was watching!

By 4:30 we'd checked into Tidewater Yacht Marina gassed up and checked in with customs - we are now in Virginia remember and every time we cross a state border we have to check in with customs.

We do the Swamp tomorrow!

  1. I'm thinking that for sure big brother was keeping an eye on your movements. I see that you upgraded to a touque, not all that warm i guess. You sure moved along good today and a good distance as well, it must of been great! It should be interesting for the next few days from what i can see there will be a few bridges to deal with.
    Have a good sail.

  3. That's a Super Jolly, I built a model of one. You should've asked him for a lift, he could probably lift the boat out of the water.

Glad you're enjoying yourselves, keep warm and fingers crossed for warmer weather.
